Objective: Determine net primary production associated to the root system of Eichhornia azurea and establish
the possible relation to changes in the water level, temperature, photosynthetically active radiation and nutrients
in the swamp of Paticos, Ayapel swamp system, Colombia.
Materials and methods: In four different times of the water level during sampling campaigns carried out
between July 2008 and march 2009 in a coastal area of the marsh of Paticos, Ayapel, Córdoba, Colombia, we
investigated the temporal variation of net primary production associated the root system of E. azurea. Net
primary production and its possible relation with water level, water temperature, photosynthetically active
radiation, and nutrients are determined by the method of oxygen in light and dark bottles.
Results: The results showed that the different moments of the hydrological regime influenced the physical
and chemical variables studied. However, variables such as silicon, phosphates, ammonia, nitrites and water
temperature showed a significant correlation of changes in net primary production. Net primary production
