Abstract

Anurans make use of the physical and biological resources of the microhabitat at a ne scale, taking into account the adaptive, morphological, physiological and behavioral aspects of the species. Objective: Characterize the microhabitat of the species Rhinella horribilis in pastures in the municipality of Villa de Leyva, Boyacá department. Methodology: The anuran record was made in three farms with predom- inant pasture coverage through the VES technique during the day and night, evaluating the following microhabitat variables: temperature and relative humidity of the environment, substrate and horizontal position. Results: A total of 19 individuals of R. horribilis were recorded in the grassland coverage. The species was reported in a range of temperature and relative humidity that varies between 17°C-26oC and 50%-82% respectively, as well as on di erent types of substrates, particularly terrestrial, and associated to temporary ponds mostly (horizontal position). Conclusions: The use of microhabitat by the species is proportional in all the categories and ranges proposed for the variables studied for the grassland coverage.
