In order to increase our knowledge and to promote conservation plans that guarantee the appropriate use of the agricultural biodiversity of the Department of El Chocó it is necessary to adopt a serie of strategies, that should be based on the actual use of our promising plant resources, genetic material selected on the basis of their organoleptic quality, and their specific adaptations to the agroclimatic conditions. To reach these objectives we propose a pool of strategies oriented to optimize their use and conservation. It is important to point that plant resources are promising genetic resources, essential for the development of future varieties. These high-quality resources can be incorporated in breeding programs to develop high yielding varieties, such those dominating the typical of current commercial agriculture.
